COMMUNITY HEALTH CAMP 2026

The Lions Club of Colombo LEADS, in collaboration with the Moraketiya Pannipitiya Business Association, successfully conducted a Community Health Camp on 05 September 2026 at the Parama Dhamma Temple, Pannipitiya. The programme brought together medical professionals, specialist doctors, Lions, and volunteers to provide a range of healthcare services to people in the surrounding community.

A large number of participants attended the Health Camp and received medical consultations, health screening, diagnostic investigations, specialist advice, and other medical services according to their individual needs. The programme provided an opportunity for members of the community to have their health conditions checked and receive medical advice and referrals for further treatment where necessary.

The Health Camp included an Eye Clinic, Vision Screening for Schoolchildren, Dental Clinic, medical consultations, Blood Sugar Screening, laboratory testing, diagnostic screening, specialist medical consultations, and a Blood Donation Campaign. A total of 500 pairs of reading glasses were provided to community members, while 100 pairs of spectacles will be provided to schoolchildren identified as requiring vision correction. Blood Sugar Screening included Random Blood Sugar (RBS), Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), and HbA1c testing. Laboratory and diagnostic services included Full Blood Count (FBC), ultrasound scanning, lung function testing, ECG, hearing tests, and other relevant investigations.

The Eye Clinic also helped identify patients requiring cataract treatment. A separate project will provide cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation free of charge to a total of 50 patients.

The Eye Clinic and Blood Sugar Screening were supported by Lion Nishantha and Lion Manjula, while the Vision Screening for Schoolchildren and the cataract surgery project will be handled separately by Lion Eng. Chinthaka. Medical consultations were provided by Lion Dr. Subhashi and Lion Dr. Priyantha, while laboratory testing was carried out by Pannipitiya Nursing Home.

The various clinics and services were coordinated and handled by Lion Lal Jayarathna, the Project Chairperson, who worked with the medical professionals, Lions, volunteers, and supporting organizations to arrange the programme.

The successful conduct of the Health Camp received tremendous support from Lion Nishantha, Lion Manjula, Lion Capt. Kalwila, Lion Eng. Nilantha, Lion Myuri, Lion Dr. Subhashi, Lion Dr. Priyantha, Lion Eng. Chinthaka, Ms. Yasoda, Mr. Devin, and Mr. Rohana. Their support and cooperation, together with the assistance of the medical professionals, Lions, volunteers, and the Moraketiya Pannipitiya Business Association, contributed greatly to the successful completion of the Community Health Camp 2026.
