COMMUNITY HEALTH CAMP 2023

The Lions Club of Colombo LEADS, in collaboration with the Moraketiya Pannipitiya Business Association, successfully conducted a Community Health Camp on 09 September 2023. The programme brought together medical professionals, specialist doctors, Lions, and volunteers to provide a range of healthcare services to members of the community.

A large number of participants attended the Health Camp and received medical consultations, health screening, eye care, blood sugar testing, and other medical services. Participants were assessed according to their health needs and were directed to the relevant medical services for further examination, advice, and treatment where necessary.

The Health Camp included an Eye Clinic, medical consultations, Blood Sugar Screening, and other medical clinics and services. The Eye Clinic provided eye examinations and consultations, while reading glasses were provided to participants who required them. Blood Sugar Screening included Random Blood Sugar (RBS), Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), and HbA1c testing. The programme also helped identify participants who required further medical attention and follow-up treatment.

The Eye Clinic was conducted with the support of Lion Brig. Chithral and his team, while medical consultations were provided by Lion Dr. Subhashi and Lion Dr. Priyantha. Blood Sugar Screening was handled by Lion Nishantha and Lion Manjula, together with the medical staff and volunteers.

Several other medical clinics and consultations were also conducted with the support of volunteer doctors and medical professionals who gave their time and expertise to serve the community. Their support and service were greatly appreciated and contributed to the successful conduct of the Health Camp.

The Eye Clinic also helped identify patients requiring cataract treatment. Following the Health Camp, 40 patients were identified for cataract surgery, and the separate cataract surgery project was handled by Lion Eng. Chinthaka to provide the required treatment.

The Health Camp was coordinated and led by Lion Lal Jayarathna, Project Chairperson, who worked with the medical professionals, Lions, volunteers, and the Moraketiya Pannipitiya Business Association to arrange the programme and its various services.

The successful conduct of the Health Camp was made possible through the support and cooperation of the Lions, medical professionals, volunteer doctors, volunteers, and the Moraketiya Pannipitiya Business Association. Special appreciation is extended to Mrs. Yashoda Yasarathna and Mr. Varuna Elvitigala for their tremendous support and assistance towards the overall project. We also sincerely appreciate everyone who contributed their time, knowledge, and effort towards providing these healthcare services to the community.
