DONATION OF A TRIAGE AREA FOR APEKSHA HOSPITAL
The Lions Club of Colombo LEADS completed a dedicated Triage Area for the Pediatric Respiratory Ward at Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama, on 28 March 2021. This project was undertaken to improve the hospital environment for young patients and their families while supporting the hospital’s efforts to provide efficient and compassionate healthcare services.
Previously, children and their accompanying family members often had to wait in open spaces and under trees, exposed to adverse weather conditions. Recognising this challenge, the club initiated the construction of a dedicated waiting area designed to provide greater comfort, shelter, and convenience for patients and hospital staff.
The new Triage Area was designed to create a more welcoming and child-friendly environment while supporting the hospital’s patient-management process. The facility includes seating for 20 people, a television with a Dialogue TV connection, hot and cool water facilities, a mobile-device charging station, free Wi-Fi, lighting, and fans. In addition, 10 personal computers were installed to support the hospital’s Tele Triage System.
Particular attention was given to the appearance and comfort of the facility. Colourful artwork on the interior and exterior walls creates a more pleasant atmosphere for children and their families, while the sheltered structure and completed flooring provide a practical space for waiting and assessment.
The project was completed and handed over to the hospital within the requested period. At the opening ceremony, hospital representatives, members of the Lions Club of Colombo LEADS, and other distinguished guests gathered to mark the completion of this important healthcare initiative. Dr. Lalith Poddalgoda highlighted the value of the facility in supporting the management of pediatric respiratory cases, while Dr. Thushari Hapuarachchi expressed her appreciation to the club for its contribution to improving the patient experience.
Through this initiative, the Lions Club of Colombo LEADS reaffirmed its commitment to supporting healthcare institutions and improving the well-being of children and their families through meaningful community service.
