DONATION OF DRY RATIONS AND FACE MASKS

On 20 November 2020, the Lions Club of Colombo LEADS (LCCL), in collaboration with Region 3 of Lions Clubs International District 306 C1, conducted a COVID-19 relief project to support families affected by the pandemic and nationwide lockdown. The initiative focused on providing essential dry rations to quarantined families dependent on daily wages, while also supplying protective equipment to police officers serving in lockdown areas.

The project brought together Lions members, police officers, military personnel, government officials, and other supporting personnel to coordinate the distribution of essential supplies and ensure that assistance reached those who needed it most.

A total of 300 packs of dry rations were distributed to families in Kalipullawatta, Dematagoda. Of these, 150 packs were contributed by the Lions Club of Colombo LEADS, with the remaining packs provided through the collaborative efforts of Region 3. The assistance was intended to help families facing financial difficulties and disruptions to their livelihoods during quarantine.

The project also included the donation of 1,000 face masks and 15 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits by the Lions Club of Colombo LEADS to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Colombo. These supplies were intended to support police officers performing duties in lockdown areas, helping protect them while they served the public during the pandemic.

The distribution of dry rations to the beneficiaries was carried out with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army and the Dematagoda Police. Their cooperation helped facilitate the delivery of essential supplies to the 300 beneficiary families in Kalipullawatta, Dematagoda.

The project was chaired by Lion Heshan Padukka, Region Chairperson of Region 3. During the programme, Lion K. K. N. K. Chinthaka, Project Secretary of the Lions Club of Colombo LEADS, addressed the gathering. The participation of Lions members and the cooperation of the relevant authorities contributed to the smooth implementation of the initiative.

The club acknowledges with sincere appreciation the dedication of the Lions members who contributed funds towards this relief project. Their generosity and collective efforts made it possible to provide essential food supplies to vulnerable families and protective equipment to police officers working under challenging conditions.

This initiative demonstrated the spirit of fellowship, cooperation, and humanitarian service that defines the Lions movement. Through its collaboration with Region 3 and the support of the armed forces and police, the Lions Club of Colombo LEADS continued its commitment to assisting communities and frontline personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic.
